From the Editors’ Bookshelf

Books and writers we believe are worth discovering.

At Hamblin Vision Publishing, our interests extend beyond the books we publish ourselves.

From the Editors’ Bookshelf is our growing collection of books, writers and resources that we believe deserve attention — works that have informed, challenged, encouraged or simply stayed with us.

Our selections range across practical spirituality, contemplative life, Christian mysticism, philosophy, wellbeing and related fields. Some come from traditions very different from our own; what connects them is their capacity to illuminate something worthwhile about how we live, think and understand ourselves.

These are independent editorial recommendations, chosen because we think they are worth discovering.

Peace Is Every Step

Thich Nhat Hanh

There are books about mindfulness, and then there are books that seem quietly to embody it. Peace Is Every Step belongs firmly in the latter category.

Thich Nhat Hanh’s approach is beautifully simple: peace is not something we have to travel elsewhere to find. It can begin here, in the ordinary moments of daily life — in breathing, walking, eating, waiting, listening and paying attention.

Rooted in Buddhist practice but written with a warmth and openness that reaches far beyond any single tradition, the book reminds us that our everyday lives offer continual opportunities to return to ourselves and to the present moment.

For readers interested in stillness, awareness and practical spirituality, this is an accessible and enduring companion — a book to read slowly, and perhaps to return to often.

Wandering Free in a Sacred Land

Philip Pegler

In the library of an Indian ashram, a young English pilgrim discovered a Sussex connection that would shape his spiritual and literary life for decades to come.

In the autumn of 1970, Philip Pegler set out alone on a pilgrimage through India. It was a journey undertaken in an era before mass tourism and rapid modernisation had transformed much of the country: a time when travel could still unfold slowly, unpredictably and with a certain simplicity.

More than fifty years later, Philip returned to the journals he had kept during those travels. The result is Wandering Free in a Sacred Land: Finding Firm Faith in Bygone India, a vivid and richly illustrated account of an outward journey that gradually became an inward one.

The book carries us through sacred places, unexpected encounters and moments of profound insight. Yet one of its most remarkable discoveries occurred not on a mountain path or beside a temple, but in a library.

The Deepest Acceptance

Jeff Foster

What might happen if, instead of constantly trying to escape, correct or improve our present experience, we allowed ourselves to meet it more fully?

That question lies close to the heart of Jeff Foster’s The Deepest Acceptance. Drawing upon the language of non-duality while remaining grounded in ordinary human experience, Foster explores a form of acceptance that is not passive resignation, but a willingness to stop fighting the reality of the present moment.

The book makes room for the whole range of human experience — uncertainty, grief, fear, joy, longing and love — without suggesting that spiritual life requires us to rise above or suppress any of it.

There is something both challenging and compassionate in this invitation: to discover that life does not have to conform to our expectations before it can be fully lived.

For readers drawn to spiritual enquiry, presence and the meeting place between awakening and ordinary life, The Deepest Acceptance offers much to sit with.

Astrological Update on 22nd December 2025

To cover the entire festive period, this update is slightly longer than usual. It covers the movement of the planets in the heavens for three weeks from 22nd December 2025.

During the Christmas holiday season, the material and practical sides of life are often prominent. This is completely understandable as many people are involved with giving presents and visiting friends and family. People want things to be ‘right’. However, this is also a profoundly spiritual time as so much love is poured down onto Earth from higher realms of life.

Evolution of consciousness

Evolution of consciousness

Astrologer Patricia Godden explores what the planets have to tell us about the shift into a new age of earth and human evolution.

“Apart from a few months during 2025, we have not experienced Saturn in Aries, Uranus in Gemini, Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius all at the same time in the last seven thousand years and possibly for a lot longer, may be even for over 30,000 years. It has definitely not happened within living memory and so is a completely new experience for people alive today.”
