Join local author Philip Pegler for a fascinating afternoon exploring his newly published book, Wandering Free in a Sacred Land: Finding Firm Faith in Bygone India – The Travel Journal of a Young English Pilgrim.

This vivid and richly illustrated travel journal recounts Philip’s solitary pilgrimage through India in the autumn of 1970. Written during an era of relative freedom and simplicity, before the rapid modernisation of the country, the book offers a thoughtful reflection on India’s spiritual heritage and the enduring search for inner truth.

At the heart of the book lies the conviction that authentic wisdom is discovered not in the outer world but within our own conscious awareness. Through encounters with sacred places, remarkable people, and profound moments of insight, Philip invites readers on a journey that is both geographical and deeply spiritual.

During this special event, Philip will discuss how the book came into being more than fifty years after the journey itself. He will explore the connection between his travels in India and his later discovery of The Science of Thought Review, his correspondence with former editor Claire Cameron, and his subsequent contributions to New Vision magazine. He will also share how he found spiritual sustenance and inspiration in the writings of Henry Thomas Hamblin.

Guests are warmly invited to ask questions about Philip’s experiences in India, the spiritual discoveries he made along the way, and the remarkable story of how these memories have now been brought together in book form.

Wandering Free in a Sacred Land follows Philip’s previous publications, including Hidden Beauty of the Commonplace, Meeting Evil with Mercy, and Quiet Courage of the Inner Light.
